How to Choose a Skid Steer Loader

1. Confirm your working needs first

1.1 Calculate required load capacity

  • Rated Operating Capacity (ROC): the safe lifting weight
    • Mini (200C600kg): indoor work, small farm, landscaping, narrow space.
    • Medium (600C1200kg): construction, warehouse loading, yard handling.
    • Heavy (1200kg+): earthmoving, demolition, heavy material transport.

Rule: Never work on slopes with full load; reduce load by 30%C50% on uneven ground.

1.2 Pick wheeled or tracked type

  1. Wheeled skid steer

Pros: fast speed, low fuel consumption, cheap tire replacement, low daily maintenance.

Suitable: concrete, asphalt, flat hard ground, Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia.

  1. Compact Track Loader (rubber track)

Pros: low ground pressure, strong traction, no damage to lawn/soft soil, stable on mud/snow.

Suitable: EU, USA, Australia, wet farm, snow removal, muddy construction sites.

Both models share identical hydraulic systems and can use the same full set of attachments (bucket, forks, breaker, sweeper, auger etc.) with standard ISO quick hitch.

1.3 Choose lift arm structure

  • Radial lift: lower cost, strong digging force; ideal for digging, shoveling soil.
  • Vertical lift: higher dumping height, better for loading trucks; perfect for logistics and large construction teams.

1.4 Check auxiliary hydraulic flow (for attachments)

  • Standard flow (30C60L/min): match bucket, pallet fork, simple sweeper.
  • High flow (70C130L/min): support hydraulic breaker, mulcher, cold planer, auger drill.

Must equip universal ISO quick coupler to change attachments fast.

2. Select engine & emission standard (critical for export)

  1. Diesel engine (mainstream globally)
  • Euro 5 / EPA Tier 4 Final: mandatory for EU, USA, Canada, Australia
  • Euro 3 / Stage IIIA: for Africa, Southeast Asia, South America (loose emission rules)

Famous reliable engines: Kubota, Yanmar, Perkins; domestic cost-effective: Weichai, Yunnei (with official certificates).

  1. Electric skid steer

Zero noise & zero exhaust; used for indoor, urban greening, greenhouse, noise-restricted zones. Need EU Battery Passport for European sales.

3. Safety & cab configuration

  • ROPS & FOPS certified cab: anti-rollover and anti-falling-object protection (must-have for formal markets)
  • Open canopy: cheap option for hot, low-budget areas

Optional upgrades: air conditioning, heater, seat heater, rear view camera, LED work lights.

Standard safety parts: emergency stop button, safety belt, warning labels, hour meter.

4. Attachment matching

Match tools according to your business:

  • Basic set: dirt bucket + pallet fork (universal for resale)
  • Extra popular tools: hydraulic breaker, angle broom, snow blade, auger drill, grapple bucket

5. Certifications for export clearance

  • EU: CE certificate (Machine Directive, Noise, EMC, Euro 5 engine report)
  • USA/Canada: EPA Tier 4 Final, OSHA compliance
  • Russia/Customs Union: EAC TR CU 010
  • Australia: RCM certification
  • Most developing countries: accept ISO9001 factory certificate + Euro 3 engine papers

6. Supplier & after-sales check

  1. Verify factory qualification: ISO9001, real production line, export records to your target country.
  2. Confirm written warranty: normally 12 months / 1000 hours whole machine, 2000 hours for engine core.
  3. Spare parts supply: short delivery time for filters, hoses, tires/tracks, seals.
  4. Support: multi-language operation manual, remote video repair guidance, mechanic training.
